ka huna massage

Originating in Hawaii the ancient practice of Ka Huna restores balance while promoting health and vitality.

Ka Huna bodywork is a unique practice of massaging the body in dynamic long, sweeping strokes. The practitioner uses their hands, forearms and elbows to apply soft and deep tissue massage whilst gliding around the therapy table. It is often referred to as a soul to soul dance.

Many techniques are used during the massage to stretch muscles, improve myofascial tension, restore postural balance, improve mobility and reduce pain. A unique soundtrack accompanies the massage and enables the practitioner to harmonise the various rhythms of the music within the clients’ body, mind and soul.

This beautiful form of bodywork realises a holistic approach to healing by balancing the body-mind in its physical, emotional and spiritual dimensions and bringing about a deep sense of well-being.

Ka Huna is a deeply nourishing massage during PREGNANCY in which deep mind and body relaxation fosters the connection between mother and child. It can ease muscle aches and pains as well as help alleviate any stress and anxiety a mother may have about her journey. It is especially helpful for preparing the mother and her body to birth her baby and can be experienced towards the end of her pregnancy. Ka Huna pregnancy massage can be received any time after 12 weeks of pregnancy.

Ka Huna body therapy follows the 7 principles of Huna philosophy:

IKE – The world is what you think it is “I am aware”

KALA – There are no limits; we are all one “I am free”

MAKIA – Energy flows where attention goes “I am focused”

MANAWA – Now is the moment of power “I am here now”

ALOHA – To love is to be happy “I am happy”

MANA – All power comes from within “I am confident”

PONO – Effectiveness is the measure of truth “I am positive”

Ka Huna is particularly suited to individuals wanting a deeper embodied massage. This multi dimensional bodywork can assists with relaxation, the release of deep-seated neuromuscular tension, energy/blood to flow more freely, treating lymphatic, immune, circulatory and digestive systems, re-energising, improving flexibility, helping to release emotions and/or trauma, bringing clarity and self-awareness and the list goes on…

Traditionally Ka Huna is performed with no clothing at all, respectfully draped for privacy with a towel and sarong. It is completely up to you how much or little clothing you would prefer to wear during the massage though oil is used liberally and the surreal feeling of the full body, sweeping massage strokes unimpeded by clothing is part of the magic of kahuna. Your comfort and safety is of utmost importance and we'll work with whatever you decide.

It is best not to eat 2 hours before a massage, you will feel more comfortable during the massage and the body's energy will not be focused on the digestive system.
